Discipline Specific Courses

Our Skills Courses are aimed at three groups of shooters:

  • Those who are new to target shooting and aim to become skilled in a specific discipline
  • Those wishing to gain more skill, knowledge and experience of a particular discipline
  • Those wanting to take part in competitive shooting

 

We currently provide courses for the following Disciplines:

  • Civilian Service Rifle (CSR)
  • Gallery Rifle (GR)
  • Target Rifle (TR)
  • Target Shotgun (TS)

 

Course Eligibility:

TS: These courses are open to full NRA members and any other person over 14 years who is not a prohibited person under section 21 of the Firearms Act and pays the additional Non-NRA Member Fee

CSR, GR, TR: These course are open to full NRA members, Non-NRA members can attend providing they are a full member of a Home Office approved club affiliated to the NRA.

 

All courses cater for pupils not currently in possession of an appropriate firearm.

Black Powder Certification Course

The Black Powder (BP) Course will provide training in the safe and competent use of Black Powder/Muzzle Loading Firearms (ie Percussion Pistols, Black Powder Revolvers, Musket and Muzzle Loading Rifles). The course is open to all NRA members and non-members (if you are not a full NRA member you will not be issued a Shooter Certification Card and will receive a certificate of completion for the course) including those who do not currently hold an FAC, possess the appropriate firearm or hold the relevant disciplines on their Shooter Certification Card (SCC).

The course will involve both classroom and practical range work with expert coaching from national and international level shooters. Attendees will be assessed over the course of the day to add Muzzle Loading Pistol & Rifle to their NRA Shooter Certification Card, allowing them to hire Black Powder kits from the NRA Armoury using black powder substitutes.

Hand Loading

The NRA Hand loading course is designed to familiarise the student with the basics of reloading metallic cartridges with emphasis on safety.  This course will focus on hand loading .308 /7.62 calibre only. You can bring your own .308 firearm and may (subject to inspection beforehand) get the opportunity to measure and use it.   Note: security of your own kit during the weekend will be your responsibility.

It will run over 2 days and involve practical hands on reloading and testing.

At the end of the course, you will:

  • Understand the fundamental safety issues concerned with reloading
  • Understand the information contained in recognised reloading manuals
  • Understand the basic theory of how components come together
  • Have the ability to recognise warning signs from ammunition/firearms
  • Understand the legal requirements and constraints of reloading
  • Get a certificate endorsed by the NRA will be issued upon completion of the course
  • Be able to select reloading components and equipment safely and with confidence
  • Have the knowledge and confidence to assemble ammunition based on safe practices
