Competitions

10 days till Imperial 155

⏰ 10 days till entries open

The Civilian Service Rifle Imperial Meeting comprises of individual competitions on Wednesday 3rd – Saturday 6th July, and two team events on the Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th July.

The CSR Championship (Grand Aggregate) is formed of the individual events on Thursday – Saturday. Most competitions are shot at distances between 100-500 yards, with the dynamic Urban Match shot at 100-25 yards.

The Meeting concludes with two team competitions:

Falling Plates: Saturday 6th July. As per 2023, we are offering entries in two classes (Modern and Open), whilst the Historic match is in abeyance.
We are actively working on solutions to reinstate the Falling Plates competition for all calibres on Bisley ranges. This requires some clever engineering and testing of equipment and methods to re-set the heavy plates, which understandably takes time.
We are confident there will a solution in place for 2025

Methuen Cup: Sunday 7th July. Teams of 6 can compete in either the Historic Enfield or Practical Optic Class, with the course of fire following the Short Range Match

We are thankful to sponsors AIM Field Sports, RPI Supplies and Vortex Optics for their continued support and additional prizes for this year’s competitions

We are in close dialogue with the MoD and will update members and affiliated clubs when NRA affiliated clubs are able to book military ranges.

Further updates will be published on the NRA website as dates for the next phases of the roadmap are confirmed.

The past year has been memorable for so many of the wrong reasons, but there is now genuine hope that we can return to our ranges and get down to the serious business of target shooting. Clean your rifles, pistols and shotguns – the ranges at Bisley and across England will be waiting for you to return.

Accuracy International Ltd Sponsor new McQueen Awards

We are delighted to announce that Accuracy International Ltd are proudly sponsoring two new prestigious awards for the McQueen series of competitions.

Accuracy International Ltd are a highly respected company based in the UK who design and produce high quality precision rifles for the individual shooter and for the UK and International Forces.   The McQueen matches’ historical origins are from sniper training from the First World War so are very well aligned with Accuracy International’s pedigree for the precision sniper rifle and its rich history.

The McQueen A (Precision) Under 25:

The team at Accuracy International (AI) are  keen to encourage young shooters into target shooting so will award a stunning hallmarked 1966 Sheffield Silver Salver and a Miniature AI Rifle Model to the winner of this new category.  This match is shot at 300 yards on Century Range, two sighting shots with ten to count with issued NRA rifles – currently AI Accuracy Tactical rifles.

The McQueen Pairs:

AI are awarding an elegant Antique Victorian 1898 Silver Cup and two Miniature AI Rifle Models for the winners of this competition.  It is open to any number of teams of two from any rifle club affiliated to the NRA, Unit of HM Forces or visiting team regardless of discipline. The awards will go to the team whose aggregate scores, with each member firing the McQueen A (Precision) match once only, make up the highest aggregate.

We look forward to receiving your entries into these exciting matches.  Entries are to be made on the day on Century range.

As already announced, Sykes McQueen’s long standing support to the Imperial McQueen competitions has been extended.  New for 2018 they are offering £100 prize money for the winner of the McQueen C (Classic) competition, shot with historic sniper rifles prior to 1945 designs.  For more information click here

Cancellations – 2022 Imperial Meeting

Cancellations – F Class, Match Rifle, ISCRM and IHAM Competitions – 2022 Imperial Meeting

The large fire in the range danger area that started on Monday 4 July remains a major threat despite the valiant efforts of a large team of fire brigade staff. They are expected to remain on site until at least Sunday 10 July and need safe and speedy access to the ranges and danger area; this requires the suspension of shooting across all Bisley rifle ranges.

It is with a heavy heart that we have therefore taken the difficult decision to cancel the following competitions:-

F Class (6 – 12 July)

Match Rifle (8 – 13 July)

ISCRM (8 – 10 July)

IHAM (9 – 10 July)

We will also delay the start to the McQueen and Sporting Rifle Imperials to Monday 11 July.

We share the disappointment of competitors in these cancellations; the 2022 Imperial Meeting was set to be a double celebration of the Platinum Jubilee and freedom from Covid regulations.

Entry fees and unused accommodation charges will be refunded in full; the competition and accommodation staff will contact you directly.

Further updates will follow, no later than Friday 8 July.

We will consider options for each cancelled competition once the flames and smoke have disappeared from our ranges,

Andrew Mercer

NRA Secretary General

NSC Chief Executive

Gehmann Optics

Gehmann Optics

Trials of the Gehmann ‘zero magnification’ diopter (Pt No. 50300-0 and combined derivatives with iris / optically flat filters etc.) indicate that this device (i) contains multiple lenses and (ii) if used in conjunction with a foresight lens (eagle eye) forms a Galilean telescope. This is currently not permitted under NRA Rules 150 & 207. Furthermore, it permits adjustment to a specification which is not ‘of a similar prescription to that which a competitor would use in everyday use’ which is not permitted under NRA Rule 206

Trials of the Gehmann ‘cylindrical lens system’ (Pt. No. 579) indicate this contains a multiple lens system which permits adjustment to a specification which is not ‘of a similar prescription to that which a competitor would use in everyday use’. Furthermore permission to use a prescription lens in the rear sight must be obtained in advance from the NRA and must be supported by an optometrist’s prescription.  This device is therefore not currently permitted under NRA Rule 206

The Shooting Committee has declined to change the Rules governing use of these two devices.

Consequently :

(a)    The ‘zero magnification diopter‘ (Pt.No. 50300-1) and its combined derivatives with iris / optically flat filters etc. may only be used with the same restrictions as the conventional variable diopter currently permitted under NRA Rule 150. It may not be used in conjunction with a foresight lens (Eagle Eye).

(b)    The ‘cylindrical lens system‘ (Pt. No. 579) is not permitted under NRA Rule 206 and may not be used.

Competitors are reminded of Rule 132 : “It is forbidden to use any artifice that may facilitate shooting which is not expressly permitted by the Rules…….“. Therefore, if you are in any doubt whether use of attachments for your rifle or any other piece of shooting equipment/ accessory / clothing is permitted by the Rules please check with the NRA Office before using it. You will be required to submit details in writing of the ‘artifice’ you propose to use and may be requested to make it available for assessment. A decision as to whether it may be used or otherwise will normally be made within 24 hours.
