Sponsorship of CSR League 2018/19

We are delighted to inform that Vortex Optics have continued their generous sponsorship initiatives with the NRA by offering new awards for the CSR League 2018/19.

The NRA and the team at Vortex Optics are keen to encourage young competitors and those who regularly take part in all the CSR League matches throughout the winter and to acknowledge and reward commitment and improvement.

Vortex Optics will award Strike Eagle scopes to the winners of the below categories in both Practical Optic and Service Optic classes:

  • Highest Scoring Under 25
  • Competitor Who Has Demonstrated The Most Significant Improvement

The winner of the Competitor Who Has Demonstrated The Most Significant Improvement will be decided by a CSR Committee led by Peter Cottrell, Head of Shooting and Training.

As proud sponsor, Martin Baumber, International Operations Manager for Vortex Optics said “It is an honour to be part of the Bisley community and an absolute pleasure to be able to support the great work the NRA do in the UK.  The disciplines of CSR and Service and Practical Optic are very close to our hearts as our products are designed to ensure they fill the practical purposes the shooter requires, assured by a lifetime warranty.  It is our privilege to be associated with you all and we look forward to the start of the CSR Winter League.  We will watch competitor participation and progression with interest!”

COVID-19

Coronavirus Update: 26th March 2020

Membership Services, Armouries and Cancellation of Competitions and Training

Earlier this week we announced the suspension of all civilian shooting on rifle and shotgun ranges operated by the National Shooting Centre at Bisley; military and police firearms training on Bisley ranges will continue.

Please note the following:-

Membership and NRA / NSC Services

NRA / NSC staff will continue to provide assistance by telephone, email and post during normal office hours, Monday to Friday. We have decided to “furlough” many of our staff due to the reduction in activities at Bisley; they will hunker down at home to wait for the virus to ebb away.

Competition and Training Cancellations

We have decided to cancel all NRA competitions and training courses up to 31st August; this includes the Imperial and Phoenix meetings. This decision has not been taken lightly; however the health and well-being of competitors, officials and staff must be our priority. We will keep the position under review in the hope we can offer a suite of “post corona” competitions in the autumn. Training courses will recommence when it is safe to do so. Payments made for courses, accommodation and Phoenix Arms Fair stands will be carried forward or refunded.

Armouries

Firearms stored in the NRA armouries can be accessed by prior arrangement only, Monday to Friday.

These arrangements will be subject to constant review; further updates will be posted to the NRA website and Facebook page.

Civilian Service Rifle Winter League 2018/19

Sunday 7th April

This popular CSR Winter League competition is running from October 2018 to April 2019.

Entries close midday Monday 1 April – This match is expected to fill up quickly as this match is shot at Ash Ranges.

What to expect

For the majority of the league you can expect to be shooting from 100-600x in a mixture of standing, squatting, kneeling or prone positions.

The day is arranged with half of the competitors on the firing point at a time; the other half operating targetry in the butts. On the firing point the first competitor will shoot the full course of fire, followed by the second competitor. If you are new to CSR or would like additional guidance, we aim to squad you as the second shooting competitor in a detail. The day is divided up into AM and PM, during both sessions you will shoot and be in the butts.

Full details on the course of fire are available in advance.

New to CSR?

For those new or looking to try Civ SR, we run 1-day ‘Introduction to Civ SR’ courses aimed at introducing you to the discipline. Sykes McQueen – Increase in Prize money for 149th Imperial

We are delighted to announce that Sykes McQueen long standing support to the Imperial McQueen competitions has been extended.  New for 2018, Sykes McQueen are offering £100 prize money for the winner of the McQueen C (Classic) competition at the Imperial Meeting.  Sykes McQueen provide the NRA and the wider shooting community with quality targetry and have been generous sponsors of the Imperial Meeting for a significant number of years.  They wish to re-establish the association with Messrs John McQueen & Sons Ltd who sponsored the McQueen match from 1920 with a winner’s prize award of £20, a substantial amount at that time.

The McQueen C is shot with historic sniper rifles prior to 1945 designs, with sights and mounts that are ‘in the spirit of the original’.   An award of £100 for the winner of this competition is a great incentive to bring out those impressive historic rifles and is a real testament to the history behind this competition.

In preparation for this why not enter our Historic Service Rifle match taking place on Saturday 7th April specifically tailored to historic Service Rifles.
