Update – Bisley Shooting Ground Limited (Council Club, Cottesloe Heath and Long Siberia)

NRA members and visitors to Bisley will be aware that the NRA expected Bisley Shooting Ground Limited (BSG) to vacate Council Club and Cottesloe Heath / Long Siberia ranges on Sunday 30th June 2019, thereby complying with their lease and licence for the same.

BSG this week launched legal action to challenge their obligation to vacate; this will result in delaying the NRA’s possession. The NRA is vigorously challenging this legal action.

NRA Trustees considered a range of options for the future use of the two ranges and clubhouse and decided that these NRA property assets would be best used for the charity’s interests by taking the operations in-hand through our wholly owned trading subsidiary, National Shooting Centre Limited (NSC). NSC has considerable experience in clay target shooting as the operator of the National Clay Shooting Centre at Bisley.

The NRA have recruited high quality staff in the expectation that BSG would vacate on 30th June 2019; they have developed plans that will see the sporting clay operation re-open with the minimum of delay. These plans will be refined during the legal dispute.

The NRA has received consistent and considered legal advice that BSG have no right for a new lease and licence at Bisley. In the Trustees’ considered opinion possession of Council Club and Cottesloe Heath / Long Siberia ranges will enable the NRA to extend its charitable shooting activities, and therefore is a more appropriate use of these assets.

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any queries; you will understand that with ongoing litigation our communications will be restricted

Kind regards

Andrew Mercer
