Job description

Job title: Charity Compliance and Risk Officer

Reporting to: NRA Secretary General

Number of Direct reports: None

Location: Bisley

Hours of work: 24 (part time)

Overall Purpose of the role:

To ensure the NRA operates in a legal and ethical manner while meeting our charitable objectives; and advise on various types of risks, identifying potential threats and create plans to prevent and mitigate problems.

Key Result Areas:

Compliance

  • Maintain, draft and revise NRA policies
  • Proactively audit processes, practices and documents to identify weaknesses
  • Evaluate charitable activities to assess compliance risk
  • Collaborate with external auditors and other professionals
  • Set plans to manage a crisis or compliance violation
  • Educate and train employees on regulations and policies
  • Address trustee and employee concerns or questions on legal compliance
  • Keep abreast of Charity Commission guidance and internal standards

Risk

  • Conduct assessments to define and analyse possible risks
  • Evaluate the gravity of each risk by considering its consequences
  • Audit processes and procedures
  • Develop risk management controls and systems
  • Design processes to eliminate or mitigate potential risks
  • Create contingency plans to manage crises
  • Evaluate existing policies and procedures to find weaknesses
  • Prepare reports and present recommendations
  • Help implement solutions and plans
  • Evaluate employees’ risk awareness and train them when necessary
  • Senior Management Team (SMT) member
  • Contribute to the SMT in assisting in the achievement of charity’s long term and short terms goals
  • Attend SMT meetings and to work with colleagues in a constructive and co-operative manner

Personnel Specification

  • Proven experience of compliance and risk management
  • Knowledge of legal requirements and controls
  • Familiarity with charity sector
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Integrity and professional ethics
  • Knowledge of risk assessment and control
  • Experience with auditing and reporting procedures
  • Strong computer and research skills
  • Analytical mind with problem-solving aptitude
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • BSc/BA in Law, Business, Finance or a related field
