Volunteering with the NRA

In order to run our calendar of events we rely on enthusiastic members of the shooting community to assist in running NRA Competitions:

  • Chief Range Officer: In charge of overall range safety, issues the range commands and coordinates the other on range volunteers (required to have an RSO or RCO qualification)
  • Range Team: Supports the running of the range by scoring, refacing targets, checking clear rifles, working the control box, signing in the next detail of shooters etc.
  • Stats: Input all scorecards and produce prizelists over the event weekend
  • Support Team: Assist the competitions team across all ranges with jobs including providing ranges with tea and coffee, distributing Range Team meals, setting up for prizegivings, assisting with queries on the range

If you are thinking about signing-up to, or have recently taken part in an RSO or RCO course and are wanting to gain on-range experience this is a great opportunity for you!

Volunteer Package: Typically these are not paid roles, but each event has a specific package that provides a thank you for giving up your time and knowledge.

NEW for 2024: Revised Mileage Claim policy. Following comments and feedback we have revised our mileage policy for volunteers to the following:

  • Applicable per vehicle for journeys from home address to the National Shooting Centre on each day volunteered (or one return journey if staying at the NSC)
  • Standard: 45p per mile up to 200 miles, Additional: 30p per mile thereafter (uncapped)
  • Volunteers making multiple journeys from home to the NSC during a meeting can claim as a total amount of miles travelled

Details about specific events and their Range Team perks are listed below. Please direct any queries to competitions@nra.org.uk
