We are very sorry to announce the death of Colin McEachran on Saturday, 21st May. A Vice-President of the NRA and past member of the Council, he began his 60+ year shooting career at Glenalmond, and continued at Oxford University. Whilst still a student, as well as shooting in the National Match, he also shot smallbore for Scotland. In all, he represented Scotland 35 times in the National Match and 34 times in the Mackinnon, including captaining the team on several occasions. In his later years, he took up Match Rifle, and shot four times for Scotland in the Elcho match.

He represented GB on many occasions, including 6 overseas tours, the last of which was as Captain of the GB team to Canada in 1990. A “Big Five” badge holder, he shot in 3 Palma matches and one Empire match, and was involved in 7 Kolapore matches, including as Captain of the 1995 team.

As an individual, he shot in 12 Queen’s Finals, and won 8 Grand Aggregate crosses, including the Silver Cross in 1966. His most notable individual success was winning the Silver Medal at the 1974 Commonwealth Games held in Christchurch, New Zealand.

A tireless supporter of Scottish shooting, he was awarded the MBE in the 2018 Birthday Honours list for services to Target Shooting in Scotland.

Our thoughts are with his family and many friends at this time.
