We are very sorry to report the passing of Hazel Mackintosh, a Vice-President of the NRA.

Appointed to teach Chemistry at Belfast Royal Academy on a temporary basis for a 3 month period in 1963, as she remarked years later, she never really left.

One of her principal interests outside the classroom was with the school’s Air Training Corps. Her expertise as a coach with the Corps and outside clubs was renowned, resulting in the Academy’s placing as one of the top four ATC Shooting Squadrons in the UK.

Hazel’s dedication to the Cadet Movement was recognised in 2002 when she was awarded the MBE.

A fine shot, she represented Ireland 28 times in the National Match and 13 times in the Mackinnon. Perhaps most notably, she was the first woman to shoot the full bore matches at the Commonwealth Games, for Northern Ireland in Brisbane in 1982. With team mate David Calvert, she won a bronze medal in the pairs match.

Her contribution to shooting was thus multi-faceted and long-lived. Our thoughts are with her family and friends.
