Nigel Penn
Half Mast
We are very sorry to report the passing of Nigel Penn on 19th December after a battle with cancer.
Nigel shot TR at Bisley and beyond for the better part of 60 years after learning the sport at Bedford School. A steady shot, he won 2 Queen’s Final badges and 1 Grand Agg. cross and participated regularly for his county – Northants, Leicestershire and Rutland – as shooter and latterly, coach and Captain.
He shot for the winning England team in the 2000 National Match, and also toured with the Great Britain team on four occasions. The last of these was as Captain of the 2013 team to the West Indies that won the Australia Match in fine style on that tour. He also captained the 2003 NRA team to the Channel Islands with great success, winning both their matches.
Nigel was for many years Secretary, and then Captain, of the British Commonwealth Rifle Club. This brought him into contact with many and various overseas visitors to Bisley, to whom he rendered a warm welcome with his endearing enthusiasm and infectious laugh.
A great ambassador for our sport, he will be much missed. He bore his debilitating illness with exemplary courage. Our thoughts are with his family and many friends at this difficult time.
