Graeme Berman
Half Mast
We are very sorry to report that Graeme Berman of Australia, a Vice-President of the NRA, has passed away at the age of 91 after a short illness.
Graeme was a frequent visitor to Bisley, both as an individual and as a member of the Australian Rifle team. He won 11 Queen’s final badges and 11 Grand Aggregate Crosses (including the Silver Cross in 1984) during these visits. On six occasions, he was a member of the Australian rifle team to Bisley, captaining the team in 1996 to victory in the Mackinnon.
In his younger days, he formed part of a very strong series of Australian teams. As a member of the 1976 and 1978 teams to Bisley, he shot in the teams that won both the Kolapore and the Empire (now Australia) matches in those years, as well as in the winning Mackinnon team in 1976, helping Australia to a memorable treble on British soil. In all, he represented Australia in 6 Australia/Empire matches, including as Captain in 1996.
A proud Australian, he was a great friend as well as a frequent visitor (along with his daughter, Karen) to Bisley. He was a great supporter of the British Commonwealth Rifle Club, where he was also a Vice-President. As recently as 2015, he was captain of the Australian team in the Kolapore match, imparting his considerable wisdom about team shooting and coaching to others.
Our thoughts are with his family, especially his daughter Karen, and his friends in Australia and beyond.
