Applications invited for the Great Britain Target Rifle Team to Australia 2026

Team invitation

To all TR shooters,

I have been honoured with the captaincy of the Great Britain Target Rifle team to Australia in 2026 to compete in the next Australia match. I am under no illusions as to how challenging it will be to overcome the Australian team, victorious in the last two Palma matches, on what is almost its ‘home range’ in Brisbane. Nor would I dismiss the other opposition. But I intend to build upon the strong foundations laid by our 2024 Palma team, who raised the bar significantly on recent GB team performance.

I am sorry to announce that Nigel Ball, whom I had asked to be my vice-Captain, has had to withdraw from the team. However, Toby Raincock has accepted my invitation to be the vice-Captain and Chloe Evans to be the tour adjutant and I am confident that we shall be a strong management team.

I am inviting applications for the tour, whether as shooters or coaches. An initial email registering interest is all that is required. We shall then send you a questionnaire seeking further information and outlining the commitment required from you for training, fundraising and other preparation to give us the best possible platform from which to compete for this historic and prestigious trophy.

The deadline for return of questionnaires is 30 January 2025, after which we shall select a squad of around 30, (from which shall be selected the touring team and reserves). The touring team will be selected immediately after the Imperial Meeting next summer and prior to the final selection for the GB team to Canada in 2026. The Australia tour dates are not set yet but will certainly include 2- 20 October 2026 (i.e. a minimum of 13 days leave).

I look forward to hearing from those of you up for the challenge,

Yours,

Jane Messer
