Regional Training

The NRA offers a variety of courses for clubs throughout the British Isles:

  • Range Safety Officer (RSO) Course

The RSO Course is designed to teach and ensure best practice in the running of a club, or private range at club level, and is now the obligatory first step in achieving an RCO qualification.

  • Range Conducting Officer (RCO) Course

The RCO Course is designed to teach the process of running a Ministry of Defence (MoD) range. The qualification will grant the certificate holder the authority to RO on MoD ranges.

  • Club Instructor (CI) Course

The CI Course is designed around the NRA’s probationary training syllabus.

The course provides candidates with the tools to be able to successfully deliver probationary training within their clubs.

The RSO, RCO and Club Instructor courses are two-day courses. Any regional course run by the NRA should ideally have a minimum of 4 course attendees, up to a maximum number dependant on the allocated instructor’s discretion.

The attendees of regional courses do not all need to be from the same Club; regional courses can be attended by members of multiple Clubs. If a Club has less than 4 people to attend, they can join up with one or more other local Clubs in order to increase the number of attendees.

If this is the case, it is the responsibility of the Clubs in attendance to work together to ensure all course paperwork and payment is collated into one. There should be only one person appointed to be the course contact to the NRA.

Course dates

Courses can take place on a weekend or during the week. This can be over two consecutive days, or there can be a gap between each day.

Regional courses cannot be booked in with less than 5 weeks’ notice. This is to ensure the Training team have enough time to deal with the pre-course admin, and also allows the Club enough time to complete the application pack required which must be received by the NRA at latest 4 weeks prior to the course date to avoid the course being cancelled or delayed.

How To Book a Regional Course

Contacting the NRA

If you are interested in booking a course to take place at your Club, the first formal step is contacting the NRA training department at training@nra.org.uk or 01483 797777 (ext. 149).

We understand that Regional Instructors and Clubs often deliberate and discuss potential regional course dates, which we encourage, however all regional training course requests must be organised through the NRA training department.

Upon contacting the Training team you will be provided with further information on the Regional booking process, as well as the current course fees and facilities required for a course to take place.
