New Programme for Young Shooters – July 2026 Festival Announced

We are delighted to announce a new programme of events for young shooters (aged under 25), culminating in a festival of competitive and recreational shooting in July 2026.

Following changes to military support of full-bore (FB) target shooting, 2025 will mark the final Inter Service Cadet Rifle Meeting (ISCRM) and CCF Schools Imperial Meeting using FB rifles. The NRA has been developing fresh initiatives to engage more young people in the sport of target shooting.

Events will offer opportunities to compete in Air Rifle, Gallery Rifle, Clay Target and Target Rifle.  Outline dates are Saturday 11th – Thursday 16th July 2026.  The Target Rifle event will be a three-day championship culminating in the award of the Ashburton Shield. The outline plan is to have two classes: Open and Issued. Details will be announced later in the year.

As part of our broader Youth Development strategy, we’re also pleased to introduce a new Youth Shooting Development Officer role, starting in September. This role will support the planning of the 2026 festival and lead the rollout of a new training framework for individuals and groups beginning their shooting journey.
