Welcome to the NRA Volunteer Network

In order to run our calendar of events we rely on enthusiastic members of the shooting community to assist in running NRA Competitions. If you are thinking about signing-up to, or have recently taken part in an RSO or RCO course and are wanting to gain on-range experience this is a great opportunity for you!

  • 🦺 Chief Range Officer: In charge of overall range safety, issues the range commands and coordinates the other on range volunteers. Required to have an RSO or RCO qualification
  • 🦺 Range Team: Supports the running of the range with roles including: scoring, re-facing targets, checking clear rifles, working the control box, organising the next detail. No qualification required
  • 📊Stats Team: Organise & input scorecards. Publish results online, produce prizelists and assist with prizegiving preparations
  • ⭐ Support Team: Assist the Competitions team with roles including: setting up and maintaining ranges, setting up for prizegivings, assisting with queries on the range

 

Volunteer Perks 2026:

As a THANK YOU for volunteering your time, we are pleased to offer*:

🍽️ Meals: For each session of volunteering (AM/PM) you can book in for either a breakfast and lunch in the form of: A meal served in the NRA Pavilion / £8.50 NRA Event Credit

🛌 Accommodation: An NRA Hut, Caravan pitch or Tent pitch for each night your volunteer, plus the day prior to arrival if required. If you wish to book your own NSC Accommodation (NRA, leased caravan pitch or other accommodation such as ATSC, St George’s Lodge etc.) you can claim back £13 per night on the volunteer claim form after the event

🚗Mileage ClaimStandard: 45p per mile up to 200 miles, Additional: 30p per mile thereafter (uncapped). Applicable per vehicle for journeys from home address to the National Shooting Centre on each day volunteered (or one return journey if staying at the NSC during the event). Volunteers making multiple journeys from home to the NSC during an event, for the purpose of volunteering for the event, can claim as a total amount of miles travelled

🎟️Volunteer Points (VPs): 1 per session (AM/PM) you volunteer. VPs accumulate over multiple events and are valid for 2 years. You can exchange them at the Main NRA Reception at the rate of 1VP = £1 for merchandise or event entries. Once you achieve 10 points in 2026, you will be presented with the 2026 Volunteer pin badge (FREE).

🎯Range Access: Exclusive Volunteer only sessions on ‘RO Days’ of certain competitions, to contest your competitions

 

*The number of Perks depend on the amount of time you volunteer towards an event. Please check each event’s details as to which Perks are on offer

Phoenix Meeting: Tuesday 19th – Sunday 24th May 2026

Thursday 21st – Sunday 24th: Most ranges require a minimum of 1x CRO and 2x Range Team, Stats Team

Imperial Historic Arms Meeting: Saturday 11th – Sunday 12th July 2026

NEW Youth Imperial Meeting: Saturday 11th – Thursday 16th July 2026

Requirements: Full details are available via the sign up link

Saturday 11th: 10m Sporter Air Rifle (NRA Pavilion), 25m Gallery Rifle, 300x Target Rifle. At each station you will have 1 hour and 30 minutes to showcase a particular style of shooting to up to 15 young people, who will have mixed experiences in target shooting. At each station we expect someone to take on the role of Lead Instructor (Full Day: £150) to make an initial presentation, with support from additional Instructors (Full Day £119)

Sunday 12th (AM only): Sporter Air (NRA Pavilion), Gallery Rifle Match, Target Rifle Match. On each range we expect someone to take on the role of Chief Range Officer (Half Day: £86) who is responsible for the overall range safety and is expected to issue the words of command. In addition we will require a few Range Officers (Half Day: £77) to assist with the additional on range duties

Monday 13th – Thursday 16th July: Target Rifle: Unless approved by the NRA, all groups and individuals are to be under the supporting control of the following roles. Most groups have the capacity to supply their own support staff, but for those that can not, we are looking to supply the following roles:

Shooting Master (£150 per day): Person in charge whose main responsibility is to coordinate those on the firing point, and the groups travelling to the Butts for target marking. They must be aware of the programme timings in order to ensure firers complete their shoots within the time allowance

Target Coaches (£119 per day): Any person under the age of 25 as of Saturday 11th July 2026. They will spend the majority of their time on the firing point, coaching the firers assigned to their target. It may be requested they assist with position building and other tasks delegated by the Shooting Master

Tuesday 14th – Wednesday 15th July: Gallery Rifle: Tuesday 17:00-19:30 and Wednesday 16:30-19:00: Advancing Target, 25m Precision. On each range we expect someone to take on the role of Chief Range Officer (Half Day: £86) who is responsible for the overall range safety and is expected to issued the words of command. Thursday 16th – Sunday 19th: Minimum of 1x CRO and 2x Range Team for each Melville A-D (plus Bay E on Saturday and Sunday only), plus 1 or 2 individuals to run the on range Event Reception

Nationals: Friday 18th  – Sunday 20th September 2026

Thursday 17th: Volunteer/ RO Competition Day: 1x CRO and 2x Range Team per range/bay: Melville A-E, Butt Zero, Stats Team

Friday 18th – Sunday 20th: Most ranges require a minimum of 1x CRO and 2x Range Team, Stats Team

Volunteer Package:

🎯 Range Access: Volunteer only sessions on Thursday 17th to contest your competitions 

🍽️ Meals: Standard Package as above PLUS Additional meal/ credit if Volunteering multiple days

Target Shotgun Autumn FestivalSaturday 3rd – Sunday 4th October

Requirements:

Saturday: CRO to cover the two Butt Zero Bays, with 2x additional Range Team members per bay

Sunday: 1x CRO and typically 3x Range team

Youth Open Event: Saturday 24th  – Sunday 25th October

Target Shotgun Spring Festival 2027

Requirements:

Saturday: CRO to cover the two Butt Zero Bays, with 2x additional Range Team members per bay

Sunday: 1x CRO and typically 3x Range team

Volunteer Package: 

🍽️ Meals: Standard Package as above PLUS 1x Additional meal/ credit if Volunteering all day Saturday & Sunday

Spring Action Weekend 2027

Requirements: 

Friday: Volunteer/ RO Competition Day: 1x CRO and 2x Range Team per range/bay [Melville A-E, Butt Zero], Stats Team

Saturday-Sunday: Most ranges require a minimum of 1x CRO and 2x Range Team, Stats Team

Volunteer Package: 

🎯 Range Access: Volunteer only sessions on Friday to contest your competitions 

🍽️ Meals: Standard Package as above PLUS 1x Additional meal/ credit if Volunteering all day Saturday & Sunday
