New Gehmann Optics
National Rifle Association
Gehmann have recently introduced two new optical products for use in the rearsight of rifles:
Dioptre 0.0x (part No. 50300-0) : described as a dioptre with an adjustment range of +/- 5 dioptres without any form of optical magnification. This is device therefore not the same as the earlier and still available “variable dioptre” giving a magification of up to 1.5x with which many shooters are familiar.
Cylindrical Lens System (part No. 579). Two versions are available with 0-2% or 0-4% spherical adjustment. This device allows the shooter to correct for both astigmatism and myopia (short) or hypermetropia (long) sight.
These devices can be used separately or together in combination with an existing iris etc or are also available in a variety of single (pre-assembled) units incorporating an iris and other “standard” rearsight units such as coloured filters, polarisers etc.
The NRA is currently evaluating both the 0.0x Dioptre and Cylindrical Lens System to determine the optical effects of these devices when used singly, in combination and/or in conjunction with a foresight lens (eagle eye).
Once that evaluation has been completed a further statement as to whether or not they are permitted under NRA Rules for Target Rifle (See Rule 150; paragraphs entitled Backsight and Foresight and Rules 206 & 207), and if so in what combination, will be posted on the website, Secretary General’s notice board during the Imperial Meeting and in the NRA Journal.
