The Youth Imperial Meeting has been launched to encourage and support Under-25s in target shooting, as well as honouring the historic competitions in the Combined Cadet Forces (CCF) Schools’ Meeting. Following the decommissioning of the L81A2-Cadet Target Rifle (CTR), the NRA aimed to continue the ‘Issued’ element that featured in the CCF Schools’ Meeting.
As part of this, the NRA submitted a business case to acquire the CTRs from the Ministry of Defence (MoD). However, we have been informed that the CTR is classed as an item Attractive to Criminal and Terrorist Organisations (ACTO) and can only be acquired by an approved contractor. The NRA is exploring the possibility of becoming an approved contractor.
Alongside our engagement with the MoD, we are evaluating strategic investments in firearms with the goal of establishing a versatile inventory that will increase the capacity of the event, support training opportunities and provide the possibility of long-term loans of equipment to individuals and groups.
We are committed to enabling the widest possible participation in the Youth Imperial Meeting 2026.
We will not be able to provide an Issued target rifle for the 2026 Meeting, however we are confident that we will be able to make available firearms and equipment for individuals and groups to be able to participate in the Target Rifle events.
Many competitions from the CCF Schools’ Meeting have historic significance and our aim remains to ensure the spirit of these awards and competitions are maintained. We will communicate the shooting programme and awards structure as we gain a clearer picture of the situation and anticipate sharing further details on the revised format early next year.
